Events | W I L I | Women's International Leadership Institute: Empowering Women Globally | WILI is a nonprofit organization and was organized in response to the problem of women in poverty who do not have the education or leadership skills to improve their economic situation- women whose day-to-day activities are so focused on survival at minimal subsistence levels that they can not move forward in terms of increasing their own education (and thus improving their economic situation) or skill-level in terms of economic self-sufficiency.

2010 Writing Contest

The purpose of the Women’s International Leadership Institute (WILI) is to promote women’s leadership potential, employment and economic self sufficiency through educational programming, skill building and charitable acts.

The first annual WILI writing contest is open to women of all ages and experience. We are accepting submissions which address the theme of a woman’s rise from limiting life circumstances to a successful, productive life. Entries can take the form of personal essays, memoirs and short fiction.

Criteria for submission: All manuscripts must adhere to the guidelines below:

Writers must submit original work only.
Writers must include a cover page, giving name, contact information, genre and title of the work, and word count.
Multiple entries are acceptable but each must have an entry form and reading/entry fee. Reading/entry fee is $10.00 for each submission and must be included with submission.
Entries must be no longer than 700 words, including the title.
Entries must be double-spaced on one side of white, 8 ½” by 11” paper
Entries must use a standard, black 12 point font (Times New Roman, Courier)
Entries must have the title in upper left hand corner of every page, with all pages numbered, and stapled. The writer’s name must not appear on the manuscript pages.
Applicant should submit 2 copies of the work. Entries from outside the USA may be submitted by email to WILI.org. All others please use USA mail.
Submissions not meeting these requirements will not be considered.
No entries will be returned and only winners will be notified.
Submission deadline is March 15, 2010. Entries postmarked after this date will not be considered.

Please DO NOT send entries by Certified Mail or any other method that requires us to sign for them. We cannot accept submissions of this type. You may include a self-addressed, stamped post card if you want to know your entry has been received.

Winners will be notified by mail. Winning entries will be published on the WILI website.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: First Prize: $75, 2nd Prize: $50.00, 3rd Prize: $25.00, Honorable Mention: Award Certificate.
